***PRC Compassion is not currently scheduling “volunteers” for our Haiti response. When the initial emergency relief stage is over, we anticipate beginning a rebuilding phase. We will evaluate our need for volunteers at that time.
PRC Compassion Network:
After much prayer and discussion, our leadership now has a plan of action for the PRC Compassion response to the crisis in Haiti.
The recent earthquake is reportedly the worst natural disaster in the western hemisphere in the last 200 years. The magnitude of destruction is still unfolding, but we can be sure of this: this is a time when the body of Christ has an opportunity to stand up and engage a need by shining the light of hope and the love of Jesus in Haiti.
♦♦ Here’s our most recent updates:
Our partners in Haiti are reporting things are still very critical in the regions surrounding the city of Port-Au-Prince. Team Greene, the medical team in place just beyond the border with the Dominican Republic, is doing about 75 surgeries a day and expect the total number of amputations to reach 100k. Our PRC Chaplain Glenn Barras, who runs Servants of All Ministries in Grand Guave, Haiti, believes that the number of orphans will rise from 300k to possibly as high as 600k. The immensity of this tragedy remains astounding.
PRC Compassion currently has this team on the ground in Grand Goave,Haiti providing clean water, shelter, medical care, and assisting with other emergency needs in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. We expect news daily and will update on the progress at our base in The Servants of All Ministries compound. The primary need is for trained disaster workers and we are not sending volunteers at this time.
What is being done now?
The most critical needs continue to be surgical teams and all types of medical supplies. Check healingplacechurch.org for info on Team Greene if you are medically trained.
Eyes on the ground are assessing the best response. We are following the wisdom of waiting to send in non-medical teams at this time.
All other volunteer applications are being processed for the next phase of the response.
What do we do now?
Please continue to pray. (Last Monday 30 churches joined to pray for God’s Mercies on theses broken lives.)
Send medical supplies. (See our list below.)
Donate if you can.
Prepare to join us when called upon.
In time the needs will move to full care of the survivors as well as the injured. This will require tent cities, with sanitation facilities and feeding sites. At that time we will open the opportunities for volunteers to come.
If you’re in the Baton Rouge area, you can bring relief supplies (listed below) to:
Healing Place Church Highland Campus
19202 Highland Road in Baton Rouge.
Items will be collected now through Monday, January 18
6:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
For those outside the Baton Rouge area, you can send/ mail your donated items to:

We are blessed to have tremendous relationships with ministries that have a long history on the ground in Haiti, as well as a wealth of experience in large-scale crisis response. It is through these partnerships that we are able to engage the need in Haiti. Serving together with these ministries during our own recent natural disasters and tragedies, we have learned to value their integrity and wisdom. PRC has great confidence that what you give will be stewarded well to help the people of Haiti.
Help us Prepare for Future Recovery and Rebuilding
The problems Haiti is facing will not go away in just a couple weeks, so many churches are committing to serving Haiti long-term. The immediate emergency situation does not present an opportunity for us to put teams on the ground to serve. But in 60 to 90 days, there will be tremendous opportunity for teams to serve there.
Please begin praying, and if you feel it is something God wants you to do, prepare to serve on a missions team in Haiti when the opportunity arises. Here’s a look at some of projects we intend to send teams for:
·Construction and clean-up
·Children’s ministry
·Pastoral counseling
·Medical care
·Cooking and feeding
PRC Chaplain Glenn Barras’s Servants of All Ministries will be our contact in this endeavor. (http://www.servantsofallministry.com). Glenn has been a missionary to Haiti for many years. Servants for All has an orphanage and several churches with trained evangelists. The ministry provides the water well in their community. Another is Celebrate Jesus, Haitian group that cares for 600-1,000 orphans each day. This fellowship is led by the mother of Bill Scheer, pastor of Guts Church in Tulsa, OK (http://gutschurch.com).
In moments like these, the body of Christ must work together to engage the need. What better way to communicate the love of our Savior than to respond with hope when people are hurting? Together, we can make a huge difference in this tragic situation.
Thank you for caring, and for putting that care into action. If you would like further information, please feel free to contact Mike Davis at mike.davis@prccompassion.net or call 225-940-9541.
